In the series Lost, Paul Shambroom photographed lost pet flyers as he encountered them in the world, faded through exposure to the elements. The images are accompanied by phrases taken from the flyers—snippets of found poetry—that underscore the futility of the owners’ attempts to recover animals that are “quite shy” and “will run and disappear.” Instead, these posters seem to serve as makeshift memorials, a way for the owners to understand and represent their loss.
